One of BBG's dozens of bonsai
The Brooklyn Botanic Garden is showing signs of spring--magnolias and hellebores are blooming, but the final bits of dramatic winter light are best viewed in the Bonsai Room, where dozens of tiny centenarians cast dramatic shadows. The room is a great example of using blue-grey paint to give objects greater brilliance. Imagine how lackluster these beauties would be in a white room.

Nymag.com videographer Jonah and I meandered through 30-degree Soho for 90 minutes yesterday before finding these two--Haluk, an artist and hat collector (he's wearing a Philip Treacy) and Stacy, a curator at the National Arts Club. Thank goodness. Their fabulousness enabled us to end our mission and eat Calexico tacos and go home.

Greg takes in "Flight," 1940.
Next time you visit Boston or D.C., fly Delta Shuttle, which leaves from the Art Deco-era Marine Air Terminal, the most charming transit hub in all of Queens and home to "Flight," the largest WPA mural ever created. Who says the glamour of air travel is gone?

R U comfortable?
I recently swung through an exhibit about pochoir, a stencil technique that French decorators in the Twenties used for room renderings.
I discovered a few things, among them my my need for a demilune reading nook and, more importantly, an image that aptly illustrates this blog. Like Adnet's Room for an Infant, sophiedonelson.com aims to reconcile words and design into a curious and compelling package. The show is only up till Dec. 20. Fingers crossed, sophiedonelson.com will have as much staying power as pochoir itself.

I’m a magazine writer and consultant. My stories have appeared in Interior Design, Elle Decor, Departures, and Martha Stewart Living. More details are on the About page.
